FCT Minister announces month-long commissioning of roads, utilities, urban renewal; extends olive branch to Rivers opponents

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has announced a 31-day series of project inaugurations across Abuja to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office, saying the inauguration blitz will showcase major infrastructure delivered under the administration.

Speaking at a political luncheon in Port Harcourt on Saturday, May 31, 2026, Wike credited Tinubu’s backing for the pace of work in the capital and challenged critics to dispute the scale of delivery.

“This third year of Mr. President alone, we are taking 31 days ffor inauguration of projects in Abuja. I’m not talking about boreholes. I challenge anybody to contradict this,” Wike said.

He listed the projects to include major road networks, public utilities and urban renewal initiatives aimed at transforming the capital city.

According to him, the month-long programme reflects the “scale of ongoing development in Abuja”.

The minister maintained that rapid infrastructure delivery in FCT demonstrates purposeful leadership and dared opponents to match the level of work being executed.

Beyond FCT projects, Wike used the forum to extend a reconciliatory hand to political actors in Rivers State.

“I use this opportunity today to announce that I have forgiven everybody,” he declared, urging opponents and allies to “return home and work together in unity”.

He said prolonged political conflict was no longer productive and called for reconciliation among stakeholders.

However, Wike also reiterated confidence in his political structure, describing it as a strong, united “rainbow coalition”.

He warned against external interference in Rivers politics, insisting attempts to destabilize the state would be resisted.

Wike further expressed confidence that his base remains well-positioned for future elections and long-term political dominance.

With the 31-day inauguration set to begin as Tinubu’s 3rd anniversary begins, Wike is positioning FCT development as the administration’s signature mid-term scorecard.
