Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, family members, and friends gathered in Abeokuta to pay tribute to the late Stella Obasanjo, marking the 20th anniversary of her passing.

The memorial service, held at the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King, OOPL, Abeokuta, drew dignitaries, including former Governors Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun.

Obasanjo described the occasion as a celebration of “a life of service,” honouring his late wife’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication.

John Abebe, Stella’s younger brother, fondly remembered her infectious smile and ability to ease grief.

“Sister Stella was somebody you just couldn’t get angry with because she would always smile through everything, every difficulty,” he said.

Olumuyiwa Obasanjo, Stella’s only child, cherished his mother’s laughter, kindness, and life lessons.

“She was caring and protective, but also strict and would not tolerate any deviation from you,” he said, adding that he strives to live by the values she instilled in him.

Today, Olumuyiwa’s children, a 17-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son, are thriving, and their grandmother’s legacy lives on through them.

Former Governor Gbenga Daniel praised Stella’s enduring legacy, recalling the motherless home named after her during his tenure.

“We thank God for her life, 20 years down the line, the legacy she left behind, the son and grandchildren, will continue to miss her motherly support,” he said.

Rev. Yusufu Obaje, pioneer Chaplain, State House, Abuja, commended Stella’s lifetime of submission to God’s will, describing her as an exemplary individual.
