Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Legal and Constitutional Matters to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a swift riposte to the party’s decision to settle for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the forthcoming 2023 election.
On Sunday, in Daura, shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari, Tinubu announced a former Governor of Borno State, Sen. Kashim Shettima, a Muslim, as his running mate.
Tinubu said his choice of Shettima was based on merit, stressing that he possessed one of the best credentials for the election, and not because of religion and other primordial considerations.
A few hours after the unveiling of Shettima by Tinubu, Bwala took to his Twitter handle to announce his resignation from the APC.
Read his tweet: “Tonight I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCNg on principles and conviction that I hold so dear. At this time of our national existence, our efforts and energy should gravitate towards uniting our people.”
