Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists [NUJ] has blacklisted the Srate Chapter of the All Progressives Congress [APC] for the act of thuggery during its recent governorship primary election in Benin.
Some APC thugs had stormed Lushville Hotel and Suites on Gapiona Street, GRA, while collation and announcement of results were going on, destroying many valuable items, including those of media houses.
The NUJ had given the APC, a seven-day ultimatum within which to replace the damaged items- cameras, et al.
But the padty has failed to meet up with the deadline.
In a statement, entitled: “BOYCOTT OF ALL APC ACTIVITIES IN EDO STATE,” and dated February 26, 2024, NUJ State Secretary, Andy Egbon said: “Following the expiration of a 7-day ultimatum issued to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State to apologise to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, replace the items of Journalists that were damaged and as well offset the medical bills of journalists who sustained injuries during their attack at the party’s aborted primary election held on Saturday February 17, 2024, all journalists in the state are to stay away from the COVERAGE of all APC activities in Edo state till further notice.”
The statement saud that “meanwhile, an emergency Congress of the union has been scheduled for Tuesday February 27, 2024 at the NUJ Main Hall, No. 1, Sir Gabriel Igbinedion Way, GRA, Benin City at 1pm with the NUJ ultimatum to EDO APC/ other sanctions as sole agenda item.”
