Clips of the spoof TV documentary about cannibalism, Gregg Wallace: The British Miracle Meat, are circulating on social media with users interpreting the show as documenting an authentic subject.
Accounts such as here are sharing scenes of a hoax lab-grown “human meat” facility from the programme, suggesting the events are genuine.
One user here wrote: “They are now making human meat … YES HUMAN MEAT … Are you awake yet?”
The clip originally appeared on TikTok, where it gathered tens of thousands of “likes” here with the caption “human meat, UK are becoming cannibals”.
Channel 4 confirmed The British Miracle Meat is entirely satirical.
The show, which aired in Britain on July 25, follows presenter Greg Wallace visiting a hoax “engineered human meat” facility called Good Harvest. While it gives no indication of being a spoof early in the documentary, halfway through, it is revealed to be satire (here).
A Channel 4 spokesperson said: “This ‘mockumentary’ is a witty yet thought-provoking commentary on the extreme measures many people are being forced to take to stay afloat in our society during the cost of living crisis.
“Channel 4 has a long and rich history of satire and has often used humour as an accessible way to highlight society’s most important issues.”
