The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, on behalf of a colleague, Mr. Gabriel Enogholase has called on kind-hearted Nigerians, corporate bodies, and government at all levels to come to the aid of the bedridden former reporter of Vanguard newspaper.
Enogholase is said to be critically down with a sickness, which has rendered him incapacitated to provide for his needs and those of his family.
According to the chapel, “Enogholase is critically ill with infected kidneys, liver, stroke and other health crises that have significantly impacted his ability to work and sustain himself financially.”
A statement on Wednesday, jointly signed by Comrade Patrick Ochoga and Elder Patrick Ahanor, Chairman and Secretary of the chapel respectively, described Enogholase as a dedicated and respected member who had contributed to development and ethical journalism.
“Gabriel’s financial burden of medical bills, coupled with daily living expenses, has become overwhelming.
“Despite the efforts of family, colleagues, and friends to provide support, the situation remains dire,” the statement said.
The journalists quoted Gabriel’s eldest son, Gabriel Ehidiamhen Akhuemokhan Jnr. to have said: “I humbly appeal for financial assistance from members of the public to enable my daddy to get back to his feet again.
“He has been sick and admitted to the Edo Specialist Hospital. We have exhausted all we had and are now in dire need of assistance.
“Kind contributions and assistance will go a long way through his account number, 2182706859, UBA, Gabriel Enogholase.”
Meanwhile, members of the Correspondents’ Chapel have made a cash donation to support his Medicare.
Chairman of the chapel, Comrade Patrick Ochoga, while presenting the fund on behalf of members to the family at the Edo Specialist Hospital in Benin City, said the visit was to offer a token of the chapel’s support and pray for his quick recovery.
According to him, “The cash donation is a small gesture of our appreciation and a reminder that you are valued and cared for.
“We wish you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing your work continue to inspire us.”
