President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences to the family of the late Emeritus Professor, Ayodeji Banjo, who died on Friday at the age of 90.
“President Tinubu mourns the academic par excellence, who only recently turned 90, describing him as a stout beacon of professional and moral excellence,” the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said in a statement issued on Sunday entitled, “President Tinubu mourns Emeritus Professor Ayodeji Banjo.”
The statement said that Tinubu “celebrates the life and legacies of the late Emeritus Professor of English, renowned for his immense contributions to the development of education in Nigeria.”
The statement quoted Tibunu to have commiserated with the family of Professor Banjo and the academic community while praying to God, the Almighty to grant the departed eternal rest.
The late Banjo was the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan from 1984 to 1991, and also former Chairman of the Board of the National Universities Commission and former Pro-Chancellor of the Universities of Port Harcourt, Ilorin, and Ajayi Crowther University.
Banjo died, on Friday, 22 days after celebrating his 90th birthday.
The Chairman of the Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, Olutoyin Okeowo, and its Vice-Chancellor, Timothy Adebayo, said they received the news of Banjo’s death with sadness.
In a tribute dedicated to the deceased, Okeowo described him as a visionary leader whose legacy in ACU would forever be remembered.
