Former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has been named a Visiting Scholar and Researcher at the African Studies Centre of a leading U.S. university.
The appointment was announced on Thursday by the centre, which operates under the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies. Obaseki will use the role to examine the successes and challenges of policies and projects implemented during his eight-year tenure in Edo State.
The institution said the research is expected to generate insights that could guide public officials across Africa on economic reforms and transformative leadership.

Director of the African Studies Centre, Nimi Wariboko, said the centre was pleased to host Obaseki as an active participant in its academic community. He noted that the affiliation would allow the former governor to engage with scholars to refine his research framework and compare his policy approach with alternative governance models globally.
“His final output — in the form of a book manuscript — will constitute a significant addition to the ASC’s scholarly contributions,” Wariboko said. He added that Obaseki’s presence would revive the centre’s tradition of hosting prominent African leaders willing to share practical experience with the academic community.
Obaseki described the appointment as an opportunity to reflect on his years in office and document the strategies adopted by his administration.
“I am excited by this appointment and the privilege it affords me to be part of this world-class university,” he said, noting that the academic environment would provide a strong platform for reflection and exchange on governance and development.
Dean of the Pardee School of Global Studies, Scott Taylor, said the school was honoured to host the former governor and support his reflections on African political economy and public policy.
