In a statement he sent vis Whataspp thereadter, the elder statesman said “I have just taken this picture now in black to send to you to mourn my dear and patriotic friend, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, who you said died last night watching the Nigeria vs South Africa football match. Very, very sad indeed.
“Cairo had been a very patriotic Nigerian who always wanted the best for Nigeria and he died of patriotism for Nigeria.
“I knew him as a young member of my Party, NCPN, in 1997 and he had always shown that passion, love and zeal for a great Nigeria.
“He left his medical practice to join politics to help shape Nigeria in the direction of greatness and prowess.
“As a member of the House of Representatives, he was outspoken for justice, equity and fairness, which almost turned him into an activist.
“We shall all miss him who knew him. May almighty God grant the family the grace to bear this very unfortunate loss with fortitude.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
