Estate agent charged with N1.6m accommodation fraud

A 27-year-old estate agent, Isiak Sodiq, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for alleged N1.6 million accommodation fraud.

Sodiq is charged with stealing and obtaining money under false pretences of providing accommodation.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp Samuel Owolabi, said the defendant committed the offences on May 22, at 7.43 p.m., at Elebu area of Ibadan.

Owolabi alleged that the defendant obtained the N1.6 million from one Mrs Omokunmi Ajibola on the pretext of helping her to secure a three-bedroom flat.

He said the defendant failed to do so and converted the money to his personal use.

The alleged offences contravene the provisions of Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Olanrewaju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million Naira and two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 20 for further hearing.
