Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the appointment of Col. Dan Didiugwu (rtd.) as Chairman of the State’s Forest Guard.

The appointment is confirmed in a statement on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.

Onyia also revealed that the governor approved a former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Olamitisoji Akinbamilayo, as the new Commander of the Forest Guard.

He stated that both appointments are subject to confirmation by the Enugu State House of Assembly.

The appointments aim to boost efforts to professionalise forest and environmental security operations across the state.

Onyia noted that the move reflects the government’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and natural resources.

He added that the role of Commander now replaces the former position of State Coordinator, which has been scrapped.

“The state government is confident in the capacity of Didiugwu and Akinbamilayo to transform the Forest Guard,” Onyia said.
