“Enigies” Vs Oba of Benin: Court adjourns to October 17

A high-profile legal dispute involving former Enigies, Mr. Edomwonyi Iduozee and Professor Gregory Akenzua, against the Benin Traditional Council has been adjourned until October 17th.

The Enigies are reportedly backed by the Edo State Government under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The case has generated significant public interest in Edo State, raising concerns about the role of the state government in traditional affairs under the purview of the traditional institution as well as the preservation of the kingdom’s cultural heritage.

Amid the ongoing controversy, One Love Foundation President, Chief Dr Patrick Osagie Eholor, otherwise known as Ultimate Equal, has publicly declared his unwavering support for the Oba of Benin.

The foundation boss stressed the importance of upholding the region’s cultural values and recognizing the vital role that “the Oba of Benin plays in maintaining the kingdom’s unique identity.”

According to Eholor: “As the legal proceedings continue, it is crucial that all parties prioritize the welfare of the Edo people and work towards a resolution that benefits the community as a whole.

“The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the governance of Edo State and the relationship between local institutions and the state government.”
