Muslims have been enjoined to embark on Sadaqah jariyah (continuous charity) on behalf of their dead loved ones, as the charity act is beneficial to them in the grave.
The charge was made on Thursday at a special 40th years remembrance prayer organised by the Lawal family, in honour of their late father, Alhaji S.B Lawal, who was the first Missioner and Chief Imam of Nawar-Ud-Deen Society, Osogbo in Osun State.
The participants also took the opportunity to pray for the late Alhaji Lawal who died 40 years ago.
At the prayer event, the cleric, who gave the sermon, Alabi Shuab eulogised Alhaji Lawal for his pioneering efforts in the promotion of Islam, particularly in the area of cleric welfare among others.
The children and members of the family praised their late father’s legacy of philanthropy, which they said made life better for them and others.
While speaking on behalf of the Lawals, Mr Olalekan Lawal, described their late father as a kind, generous person who was quick to give a helping hand to the less privileged in the society while on earth.
“His impact on the family, community and the Muslim ummah will continue to live on.
” He had done a lot for us. He was a warrior who fought for all of us to excel in life,” he recalled.
“We are grateful to our father Alhaji Lawal who is now in heaven because his legacy cannot be written off. He has always been there for us and we will continue to remember him every day.
“Anytime we hear his name, his memory usually flashes back to we children, I pray that, Allah will always make accountability easy for him and illuminate his grave” he prayed.
The late Alhaji Lawal died on 13th of April, 1983 at the age of 80 years and was survived by many children and grandchildren.
The 40th memorial prayer witnessed the attendance of Lawal family, friends and journalists from far and near while reception followed immediately at Ola-Iya in Osogbo.
