Mallam Nasir el-rufai described ad false, the reports of his decampment to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he had received a PDP membership card at his polling unit in Sarki, Kaduna.
The unverified decampment report sparked widespread discussions online, with many speculating about the political implications of such a move in Kaduna State’s evolving political landscape.
However, rl-Rufai swiftly took to his official X account to set the records straight.
“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers,” he wrote.
el-Rufai’s refutal and threat of legal action indicated his commitment to countering what he described as “fake news” designed to mislead the public.
The former governor’s political future has been a subject of keen interest, following his tenure marked by bold reforms and controversial policies.
Reports of the decampment of el-Rufai from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, had been fueled by his estrangement from the government at the federal and state levels.
