Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who attacked former President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremberg, Germany on Saturday may be sanctioned by the German authorities if found guilty of infraction of the country’s law with regard to alien status by their unruly act.
The irate IPoB members manhandled Senator Ekweremadu and ripped apart his clothes after he had been repeatedly pelted with eggs and yams at the venue of the Igbo annual Yam festival to which he was invited as a guest speaker.
Ekweremadu is due back in Nigeria on Monday evening.
But strong condemnations from highly-placed Nigerians have continued to trail the action of the IPoB which accused Ekweremadu of encouraging the federal government to proscribe the group.
Meanwhile, there were indications that the violent IPOB members have been identified and may have been slated for deportation by the German authorities.
The step followed the investigations carried out by the German Police that culminated in the rounding off of the no fewer than ten IPoB members that participated in the attack.
German government had earlier planned to deport some Nigerians before the attack on Senator Ekweremadu by IPOB members.
