Ekiti State Government has banned graduation ceremonies for pupils in kindergarten, nursery, primary, and secondary classes in both public and private schools in the state.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ekiti State Ministry of Education, Mike Omolayo, announced this in a statement issued on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Omolayo noted that the ban will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.

Omolayo stated that the new policy was aimed at reducing undue financial pressure on parents and curbing excesses associated with such ceremonies.

The permanent secretary disclosed that the Ekiti State Government was still committed to a once-in-six-year book review for primary schools, while the secondary school level has been changed from once in three years to once in four years.

Omolayo quoted the state government as urging parents and guardians to note that siblings can pass textbooks to their younger ones, as long as the books were in good condition.
