A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the immediate sealing of Crown Emirate Hotel, Ikere-Ekiti, after a stampede left three students dead.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun gave the order on Thursday and directed the Ekiti State Director of Public Prosecution to take over the case.
The deaths occurred during a night party at the hotel following the second convocation of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti. Police said a fight broke out among students, triggering a stampede that killed three.
Twelve suspects were arraigned over the incident. Police prosecutor Martins Akala filed a motion ex parte seeking a 30-day remand in correctional custody to allow further investigation.
The suspects face charges of conspiracy, criminal negligence, and manslaughter, backed by a 10-paragraph affidavit.

At Thursday’s sitting, Deputy Director and Legal Officer for Ekiti State, Kunle Adeyemo, told the court he had the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Dayo Apata’s authority to take over prosecution.
The case was adjourned to May 19, 2026 for further hearing.
