Operatives from the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have apprehended Charles Osaigbovo and Evans Obayaedo on allegations of engaging in love scams, computer-related fraud, and obtaining money under false pretenses amounting to £38,000.
These individuals had assumed the identities of renowned Nigerian actor and movie producer, Fredrick Leonard, leading to their arrest.
The arrest of the suspects came after a British citizen lodged a complaint against Leonard.
The petitioner claimed to have met Leonard on the social media platform TikTok and subsequently entered into a romantic relationship with him.
She further alleged that Leonard proposed an investment opportunity in a film production to her.
According to the petitioner, she transferred £38,000 to the suspects as an investment in the purported film production.
Upon realizing that she had been deceived and unable to recover her funds despite her best efforts, she filed a petition with the EFCC.
Investigations unveiled that the suspects, located in Ibadan, Oyo State, had been assuming Leonard’s identity to defraud unsuspecting individuals on various social media platforms.
Once the investigation concludes, the suspects will be arraigned.
