EFCC arrests 20 suspects for electoral offences in FCT polls

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 20 suspects for alleged electoral offences linked to the recently concluded council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

The anti-graft agency said the arrests were carried out on Saturday across several area councils, with offences ranging from vote buying and vote selling to obstruction of election officials.

According to the commission, a total of N17,218,700 was recovered from the suspects during the operation.

One of the suspects was reportedly found with N13.5 million inside a vehicle parked near a polling unit in Kwali Area Council.

Breakdown of the arrests showed that two suspects were picked up in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali.

The EFCC stated that investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the probe.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on February 22, 2026.
