EFCC arrests 19 Akwa Ibom varsity students for internet fraud

The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested no fewer than 19 students of the Akwa Ibom State University in Ikot Akpadem, Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area of the state, for internet fraud.

The students were arrested by the EFCC operatives at their private hostels – Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge – in Ikot Akpadem on Friday, April 28.

According to a statement issued by the EFCC on Sunday, April 30, the students’ arrest followed several months of surveillance on their suspected involvement in romance scam, fraudulent cryptocurrency transactions, and impersonation.

The anti-graft agency listed the items recovered from the arrested suspects to include several laptops and mobile phones.

The EFCC noted that the university undergraduates will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
