The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly released former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, on administrative bail after questioning him over an alleged ₦700 billion fraud.

There were reports that Emmanuel was taken into custody shortly after arriving at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, around 12:30 p.m.

He had honoured the commission’s invitation regarding allegations of money laundering, fund diversion, and theft, as contained in a petition by the civil society group, Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NCAT).

The petitioner claimed that during his eight-year tenure, Emmanuel received ₦3 trillion from the Federation Account but left behind a ₦500 billion debt profile and ₦300 billion in unpaid projects.
