Elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark has commended President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of 20 medical students and eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
The students were abducted in Benue State en route to a programme in Enugu, while the NYSC members had been held captive for a year while on their way to Zamfara for national service orientation programme.
Clark expressed his joy over the rescue, highlighting the significant role that technology played in the operation.
He also acknowledged Dr. Reuben Abati, who praised the efforts during a recent analysis.
Clark underscored the negative impact of kidnapping and banditry on Nigeria’s economy and social life, particularly its effects on agriculture and travel safety.
Drawing from his own experience with kidnapping, including the abduction of his son, Clark emphasized the importance of robust and coordinated rescue efforts. He urged state governors to actively contribute to security in their regions, noting that reliance on the federal government alone is insufficient.
Clark lauded President Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and all involved in the operation. He called for the application of similar rescue strategies across the country to address the ongoing security challenges.
