The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr. Fidet Okhiria, says the attack on Ekehen train station in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State will not affect the Itapkpe-Warri train service.
Okhiria made this known while speaking to newsmen on Sunday.
The NRC boss stated that the train service would continue operations, adding that additional security measures would be deployed.
He said investigation was ongoing to ascertain the number of passengers involved in the accident among other details.
Meanwhile, the NRC has announced the indefinite closure of Ekehen station over the attack and abduction of some passengers on Saturday.
The corporation, in a message shared on the passengers’ WhatApp Group, said: “Public Announcement: This is to inform our general public and most especially our esteemed passengers that Ekehen Station has been temporarily closed due to security issues, till further notice.”
The Star had reported gunmen attacked the train station on Saturday evening and kidnapped scores of passengers who were waiting to board the Itakpe-Warri train.
The incident was confirmed by the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor.
