Edo State Government distances self from court case against Oba of Benin

The Edo State Government has distanced itself from any involvement in the ongoing court case against the revered Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II.

In a formal statement released on Thursday, May 9, 2024, Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, dismissed rumors doing the rounds on social media regarding an impending legal action against the monarch, attributing them to malicious elements with ulterior motives.

Osagie clarified that, contrary to the misinformation being spread, the Edo State Government was actually a defendant in the case, thus refuting any notion of instigating legal proceedings against the revered traditional ruler.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship with the Royal Palace, Osagie reiterated the high regards in which the Oba of Benin was held by the state administration.
