The Edo State Government has intensified preparations for the rollout of Edo CARES 2.0, the next phase of its World Bank-backed social protection and economic recovery programme.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Elizabeth Ebosele, convened a strategic meeting with delivery platforms and key stakeholders this week to assess the state’s readiness for the project’s take-off.
The session drew detailed presentations from implementing partners on priority interventions under CARES 2.0, with a focus on expanding social safety nets, supporting livelihoods, and driving economic recovery for vulnerable households and small businesses across Edo.
Dr. Ebosele, who chairs the programme’s Steering Committee, stressed that success will hinge on proactive planning, accountability, and results. “Edo CARES 2.0 is a critical opportunity to build on existing gains while reaching more vulnerable people and MSMEs,” she said.
The meeting also reviewed gains recorded under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration, including sustained investment in social welfare, wider access to economic opportunities, and stronger institutional frameworks for programme delivery and infrastructure.
Commending the delivery teams for their work so far, Dr. Ebosele urged stakeholders to sustain momentum ahead of the official launch. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and impact, in partnership with the World Bank and other development agencies.
Project Coordinator and Steering Committee Secretary, Mr. Friday Wisdom Isaiah, gave the vote of thanks.
The meeting ended with a renewed pledge from all participants to ensure smooth implementation of CARES 2.0, aimed at improving livelihoods and driving inclusive growth in line with Governor Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda.
