The Woman Leader of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Patricia Betty Okoebor Benson, has urged APC women to rally round Prince Clem Agba, a frontline APC aspirant for the governorship ticket, in order to pave the way for APC’s victory in the guber election holding in the state on September 21, 2024.
Hon Benson said that what the party needed now was a man who had been “tested and trusted,” adding that Prince Agba had shown the needed capacity as a former commissioner in the state, who went ahead to up the ante of his solid performances as a Minister of State for Budget and National Planning.
She was addressing APC women leaders from the 18 local government areas of the state at Prince Clem Agba campaign office in Benin City, the state capital.
In attendance were Dr. Mercy Grant and Barr. Rose Odiye, who are Chairperson and Assistant Chairperson/Chief Spokesperson to Edo APC Women in the Diaspora; respectively; including Princess Eghanoba-Obazee (aka Mama B), the Assistant Woman Leader for APC Orhionmwon Local Government Area.
According to Benson: “We need to vote for somebod with a verifiable record of performance. If we look and x-ray all the aspirants, we know Agba is tested and trusted as a former commissioner and minister. He needs our support, whether through direct or indirect primary election. We have to rally round Agba,”
Barr. Rose Odiye (aka Sugar), a one-time president, Nigerian Progressive Lawyers, World Wide, who represented Mrs Catherine Agba on the occasion, urged the women to come together to fight for a cause.
Barr. Odiye, a United States (US) resident, asserted that as “polithinkers and not politicians, we think ahead for the sake of our children.”
She further said that the APC ticket should go to Agba, who had assured them all, especially the women folks, that he was going to develop the state.
“Prince Clem Agba is a game changer. Let’s keep our dignity and not lies and peanuts for the sake of our children,” she said.
Odiye stated that Agba was a peculiar aspirant being the only one who has come to the state to personally address the Diasporas on what he intended to do if given the opportunity to govern Edo state.
She promised: “We will put heads together to work for him. He accorded us respect. Many will come to tell us all kinds of lies but not Agba.”
On the current dilapidated infrastructure in the state, Barr. Odiye said the state had been lucky to have only three leaders – Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, Ambrose Alli, and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole – who worked for the development of the state.
“Look at the Central Hospital that used to be historical reference; it has been destroyed to make way for museum. What a pity,” she lamented.
Barr. Odeyi extolled the humility of Agba’s wife, saying she was humble, easily accessible and a strong ally to her husband who needed to be supported to bring in more women into governance if her husband assumed the position of governor.
She explained that Mrs Agba had promised women more positions if her husband became the governor.
