The Edo State Government has fired back at the opposition PDP, accusing them of spreading lies, distortions, and concoctions in their criticism of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
In a press statement, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, described the PDP’s claims as “fibs, distortions, concoctions, contradictions, pretensions, and lies in cold blood.”
Afegbua accused the PDP of trying to prioritise Obaseki as the chief proprietor of a “school of economics and finance” that is allegedly built on fraud and malfeasance.
He cited the Radisson Hotel project and the MOWAA project as examples of the previous administration’s profligacy and corruption.
The Commissioner questioned the circumstances surrounding the hotel’s ownership structure, alleging that the Obaseki-led government ceded 80% equity to a new investor without competitive bidding, while the state government continues to pay N385 million monthly to service the N25 billion loan sourced from the Stock Market.
Afegbua called on Obaseki to return home and face the investigative panel, saying that seeking refuge under the courts would not help his case.
He said that the current government would formally submit a petition to the EFCC to bring Obaseki to book once the investigations were concluded.
The Commissioner highlighted the difference in governance styles between the current administration and the previous one, saying that “Governor Monday Okpebholo is committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance.”
He cited the governor’s achievements in just one year, including building more schools than the previous administration did in eight years.
THE CONCLAVE reports the Edo State Government’s determination to hold its former leaders accountable for their actions, and the people of Edo State are eager to see justice served.
As the investigation unfolds, one thing is certain – the truth will come to light, and those responsible will be held accountable.
