The Diaspora Committee of the 2024 Governorship Campaign Council of the Edo State’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, has again congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo (a k,a Akpakomiza), winner of the just-concluded governorship election in Edo State.
The committee assured him and the people of the state that it would mobilise Edolites in the Diaspora and other affiliates, to give maximum support towards the rapid development of infrastructure and other spheres, as never witnessed before, by any state in Nigeria.
The committee’s salutation and determination to develop the state were expressed in a joint interview by Mr. Francis Goddy Okoyo (GFO) and Mr. David Adodo, Director and Secretary, respectively, of the Campaign Committee.
While Mr. Okoyo (GFO), a native of Ugboha in Esan South East Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, is a Canada-based Chartered Accountant and multidisciplinary Consultant trained by the notable multinational PricewaterHouseCoopers firm, Mr. Adodo is from Sabongida-Ora in Owan West LGA, a businessman and management expert, who has companies and teeming employees in Maryland, United States of America
The duo of Messrs Okoyo and Adodo further said that the election of Senator Okpebholo, with his Deputy, Hon Dennis Idahosa (a k.a Denco), was a welcomed development and a certainty that the people of the state, were fed up with the poor performance of Governor Godwin Obaseki and his People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and had, therefore, voted Senator Okpebholo, to reenact and even surpass the solid performances of the APC, when Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was its immediate-past governor.
Stating that the quantum of support given the victorious Okpebholo, by their Diaspora Committee was unprecedented in the history of the state, they also added that the high spate of development recorded during the eight years of the Governor Obaseki’s eclipsing government, would not have been possible without the tangible Diaspora remittances and its other supports, both men vowed to assemble the larger diasporan greater supports
While thanking the voters for giving victory to the APC, in the election, the group urged the elected government and the people to ensure the enabling environment for investment inflow and sustenance, but vowing further that Edo indigenes, living in abroad, were going to mobilize other Edolites across the diasporas, away from the campaign committee that it was, primarily
“We intend a Diaspora blueprint in which our diverse professionals, busibess men, investors and other developers, from the diverse countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and other continents, would fully ensure the flow of tangible investments, remittances, grants and other incentives, from more of our diaspora people, companies, continental and global business and non-profit institutions”, Mr Okoyo (GFO) retorted.
The Diaspora Campaign Committee, led by Okoyo (GFO), Adodo and its executive members, had brought hundreds of their members, from across the world, through an intensified electioneering which spanned months, to mobilize voters to elect Senator Okpebholo and his deputy.
