Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Phillip Shaibu has claimed that loyalists of Governor Godwin Obaseki have become tired of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State.
Speaking in a video that has gone viral, Shaibu painted a pathetic picture of how they had become alienated and rejected in the State Chapter of the PDP.
Apparently playing the victims’ card, he concealed some glaring facts that portrayed Governor Obaseki, himself and other loyalists that moved with the governor from the APC to the PDP as “unjust, unfair and too acquisitive” in the bid to control the PDP structure in Edo State.
A member of the PDP said that Shaibu did not disclose how he (Shaibu) was retained as Deputy Governor when the PDP allowed him (Obaseki) to run for re-election on its platform in 2020.
The PDP was to present a running mate to Obaseki, but Obaseki begged for him (Shaibu) to be retained.
After winning the re-election, Obaseki had allegedly gone ahead to appoint all key officials of government from the APC group in the PDP, without recourse to original PDP group in the party.
It was learnt that except Chris Nehikhare, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, who allegedly “sold out” and got compensated with an appointment as commissioner, no other member of the original PDP, had been tapped by the governor for appointment.
The governor and his loyalists have been doing their best possible to completely take over the party structure.
But for the National Vice Chairman, (South-south), Chief Dan Osi Orbih, who had resisted Obaseki and his group, the validly-elected State Executive Committee would have been dissolved in the guise of harmonisation that Obaseki has been stubbornly pursuing.
THE CONCLAVE reports that Orbih and the original PDP group have resolved to hold the party while they have decided to leave the government for Obaseki and his associates in the PDP.
The decision by the original PDP group has discomfitted Obaseki, Shaibu and their associates, with Saibu’s obvious frustrations in the viral video validating the report.
