Keyamo vows to withdraw licence of any airline that flies KWAM 1
The Environmental Defenders Network (EDEN) and the United Correspondents Chapel (UCC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council have pledged a strategic partnership to promote environmental rights and community development across the region.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the UCC to EDEN’s office in Yenagoa, Comrade Morris Alagoa, EDEN’s head and Technical Assistant to Governor Diri on the Environment, lauded the media’s critical role in advocating for environmental rights and ensuring justice.
He emphasised that environmental rights are fundamental to human rights, referencing the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The environment Activist outlined EDEN’s commitment to environmental protection, upholding the rule of law, and fostering community development, expressing eagerness to collaborate with the UCC to raise awareness about issues such as oil spills, climate change, and plastic pollution.
He encouraged journalists to remain diligent despite challenges like inadequate remuneration and lack of respect, highlighting the media’s influence in shaping public opinion.
He also stressed the urgent need for community development, noting unfulfilled government promises, including a commitment by government in the year 2000 to provide pipe-borne water to all communities, which remains unmet 25 years later.
Earlier in his remarks , the Chairman of United Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Ekaunkumo Amgbare, called for stronger collaboration between the media and environmental stakeholders to boost public education on environmental challenges.
He proposed a deeper partnership with EDEN to intensify efforts in tackling pollution and climate issues.
Amgbare praised Alagoa’s exemplary leadership as a seasoned environmental rights activist and expressed confidence that their joint efforts would yield significant societal benefits.
The visit, which serve to introduce the new UCC leadership to Alagoa, also explored opportunities for collaborative initiatives.
Amgbare thanked Alagoa for his warm hospitality and reaffirmed the UCC’s dedication to a partnership that prioritizes the greater good.
Both leaders expressed their optimism that their alliance would drive transformative change, promoting environmental sustainability and enhanced community welfare throughout the region.
