The director said some of the cases are still ongoing, while others have been successfully handled through mediation and other interventions.

On access to justice, he said that the organisation, with the collaboration of relevant organisations, facilitated and secured the release of inmates in the state’s correctional centre.

“We facilitated the release of inmates charged with stealing, vandalism and other minor cases.

“The process was not just to get them out, as we started with counselling and rehabilitation, so they could be reintegrated into the society.”

According to him, the centre trained 90 officers on defensive procedure and established a “safeguarding system for schools”, aimed at tackling abuses on school children and teachers.

He said the officers are teachers designated in various schools across the three senatorial zones of the state.

He also disclosed that 60 persons from three local government areas of the state were selected and trained on early warning and response system to become proactive in preventing possible conflicts.

He said “peace building and conflict resolution are the centre’s substantial areas of mediation.”
