Juju exponent, Chief Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi, has debunked rumours of his death, which did the rounds on social media on Monday.
THE CONCLAVE reports that its newsroom was inundated with calls to confirm the veracity of the report of Obey’s death.
THE Board of Editors got down to work, checked the Internet space via Google to see if any news media had published the report, but none did.
The only news item that popped up was the denial of Obey’s rumoured death in July 2020- about five years ago.
That finding called for great circumspection.
One of our editors who once worked under a senior editor, who is a younger brother to Obey’s late wife, sent him an sms for confirmation.
Although there was no response, repeated online checks and other calls put through to links in Abeokuta and Lagos indicated that it was another rumoured death.
Obey, popularly referred to as Chief Commander, was not dead after all. He still still commands the elements around him.
A video released late on Monday night by Obey finally put an end to the sustained anxiety generated by the rumour of his “death.”
After introducing himself: “My name is Evangelist, Professor Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi,” he went on to sing one of his most popular tracks: “”Satan you don lose.”
He then added: “It is a fake news that certain …few hours ago that I Evangelist, Professor Ebenezer Obey, I have passed on to glory.
“It is a pure lie.
“I am alive.
“And that is not what Jesus has written about me.
“What Jesus has written about me is only what will manifest upon my life.
“I am alive, says the Lord and don’t believe any fake news.
“I am alive and I dey kampe.
“My time is not up yet.
“Until when Jesus says my time is up, nobody, and I say it again, nobody, nobody….
“Everything they are saying….
“Ti arigi segi ba se igi, ori are e ni o fi n gbe. Kii se ofo o, Yoruba ni.
“So thank you very much to all the people who have been calling.
“I am alive.”
