A former commissioner in the Cabinet of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Raphael Otuekong Bassey, has died.
Hon. Bassey, the immediate past Commissioner for Housing under Governor Umo Eno, reportedly died on Saturday after he vomited blood.
When he began to vomit, he was rushed to a hospital.
Reports said that he gave up the ghost at the hospital.
The cause of death had yet to be disclosed as of press time.
But reports said he had not been in good health even while he was a commissioner.
He lost his job in a cabinet reshuffle by the governor.
A native of Nsit Atai Local Government, he was an accomplished political leader who had held a number of positions.
The late Bassey was a former chairman of Nsit Atai LGA.
He was, also, a member of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, and had, long before then, served as a supervisor.
His wife and two children survived him.
