Don’t pray for healing after eating carelessly – Pastor Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye has urged Christians to start living healthier lives if they want to fulfil God’s purpose for them.

In a series of recent messages entitled “Eat Right, Physical Exercise is Profitable, and Avoid Gluttony,” the 83-year-old leader spoke about how important it is to take care of the body, not just the spirit.

He said many of the health problems people faced today were caused by their own bad habits—things like eating unhealthy food, having heavy meals late at night, eating too much sugar, and not exercising enough.

“Don’t eat junk foods that endanger your health and then run to God for healing when the doctor’s report comes out,” Pastor Adeboye warned.

“You should glorify Him with your body by eating only foods that will keep you healthy.”

He also encouraged people to grow their own fruits and vegetables, saying it’s a better alternative to eating foods full of preservatives.

“Natural fruits and vegetables are God’s design for nourishment,” he added.

According to him, bad eating habits don’t just affect the body—they affect a person’s spiritual life, too.

“You can’t eat junk and expect to wake up at night to pray effectively. Food should nourish, not destroy,” he said.

The pastor pointed out that while spiritual growth was important, people must not ignore physical discipline.

He explained that living a very easy, inactive life was risky.

“A soft life without exercise endangers your health. Don’t let comfort cut your life short,” he cautioned.

Speaking about his own lifestyle, Adeboye said he included walking in his daily routine, especially while praying. “I walk while praying. It improves my health, mental alertness, and productivity,” he shared.

In another message, “Avoid Gluttony,” Pastor Adeboye spoke strongly against eating too much.

He called it a “spiritual trap that weakens both the body and the spirit.:

“Overeating makes you weak and burdens your body with excess digestion. Gluttony is a trap of the devil—it makes you physically and spiritually vulnerable,” he warned.

To support his point, he mentioned an experiment where rats that were overfed got sick more often than those that ate moderately.

He also reminded Christians of the importance of fasting.

He recalled going on a 40-day fast back in 1984, saying it had a huge impact on his spiritual journey.

“Christians who are serious about their destiny don’t eat every day. Despite my age, I still fast because I want to finish strong,” he said.

In conclusion, he advised believers to see their bodies as temples of God, and to live with discipline in both spiritual and physical areas.

“Healthy habits, moderation, and obedience are key to fulfilling divine destinies,” Pastor Adeboye said.
