Hon Yakubu Dogara, the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, has endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Jafaru Leko as his replacement for the BOGORO/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency.

Speaking to a mammoth crowd of his supporters in Tafawa Balewa town of Bauchi state, on Thursday evening, Dogara urged his supporters across party lines to cast their votes for Leko in Saturday’s election.

This is the first time in 16 years that Hon Dogara won’t be running for any elective office.

Hon Dogara has been representing the constituency since 2007 when he was first elected and rose to become the 14th Speaker of the House of Representatives from June 2015 to June 2019.

Although his kinsman, Barrister Kefas Magaji, is running for the seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former speaker said in the interest of justice and inclusiveness, the seat should rotate to other part of the constituency, hence his decision to throw his weight behind Leko who is a former staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the same vein, the gathering also unanimously adopted the PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The people, which comprised youths, women, and the elderly including traditional rulers and supporters from different political parties, resolved with one voice to vote for Atiku in Saturday’s presidential election.
