Deputy governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has urged the State House of Assembly and the public to disregard a letter of his resignation doing the rounds in social media.

“I remain in office as the deputy governor of Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa said in a statement entitled “To whom it may concern- Re: Purported Pre-Signed Resignation Letter” dated September 14, 2023.

Aiyedatiwa declared that he had no intention to resign from office as deputy governor

THE CONCLAVE learnt that the context to the report was a purported pre-inauguration deal by the deputy governor to be loyal to the governor; otherwise, he would be made to resign.

The idea of the letter was said to have come up after Hon Agboola Ajayi, the first deputy governor to Akeredolu, acted in a manner that discounted his loyalty to his boss.

Ajayi had moved to another party to contest the governorship against Akeredolu in order to upend Akeredolu’s re-election bid. He, however, failed as Akeredolu won.

The letter, which according to feelers, was a prerequisite or precondition to the choice of Aiyedatiwa was the cause of the deputy governor’s anxiety.

He feared, as learnt, that the letter might be released and sent to the House of Assembly to activate the process of his removal from office.

THE CONCLAVE learnt that Aiyedatiwa’s statement was a move to pre-empt the governor whom he feared might be considering going the route of his removal by the state legislature.

Aiyedatiwa pre-emptively debunked the report and insinuations.

He affirmed that he had the intention of running the full course of his four years and would remain loyal to the constitution and his principal.

Recall that his media crew was disbanded following alleged unsavory reports while Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was on medical vacation.

THE CONCLAVE reports that the disbandment of Aiyedatiwa’s media team may have signposted a series of planned onslaught to weaken the office of the deputy governor preparatory to his ouster.

Akeredolu’s is expected to take further steps as soon as he arrives in Akure, expectedly next week from Ibadan, where he is resting, after he arrived in Nigeria from his three-month medical vacation in Germany.
