The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that three dismissed police officers—Mr. Abiodun Kayode, Mr. James Emmanuel, and Mr. Oni Philip—have been arraigned following their alleged involvement in the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola.
The trio, who were dismissed from the force earlier this year, appeared in court on October 16, 2024, to face two charges: criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
In a statement issued by DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, the dismissed officers were arrested after an investigation linked them to the death of Ishola, a resident whose demise sparked outrage within the local community.
The court has since remanded all three in prison custody pending the continuation of their trial.
The case has drawn significant public attention, with citizens calling for justice and transparency in the handling of the matter.
The Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to upholding the rule of law, stating that no officer is above the law and that the force remains dedicated to ensuring accountability within its ranks.
DSP Ejire-Adeyemi emphasized that the force would continue to cooperate with the judicial process and urged the public to remain calm as justice takes its course.
The dismissed officers were reportedly involved in a series of incidents that culminated in the death of Ishola, a matter that has been thoroughly investigated by law enforcement.
The details of their involvement have not yet been fully disclosed, but the court will further examine the evidence as the trial progresses.
The Commissioner of Police assured that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face the full weight of the law, underscoring the command’s zero-tolerance policy for criminal activities, especially among its personnel.
The court proceedings are expected to continue in the coming weeks, as the legal process unfolds.
