The Defence Headquarters has expressed deep concern regarding the dissemination of false and alarming reports on social media, which have been twisted to insinuate that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) received a request to instigate a change of leadership within the country.

In an official statement released on Sunday, August 13, 2023, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, reaffirmed that the AFN categorically denied ever issuing or endorsing such a declaration to any individual or group.

He underscored his firm belief that this assertion had been propagated by individuals with malicious intentions towards the nation.

He attributed this misleading narrative to the misguided imagination of a small faction that held dissatisfaction with the progress and prosperity of our cherished country.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau emphasized, “We wish to take this opportunity to reiterate unequivocally that the AFN has neither received nor issued any such declaration to anyone or any group at any point.

“We view this statement as originating from those who harbour negative intentions towards the nation.

“It clearly stems from the sinister imagination of a small faction that is discontented with the strides and well-being of our nation.”

He went on to underline that the “AFN upholds a strong commitment to democracy and remains steadfastly loyal to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The military stands fully prepared to safeguard the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.:

Brigadier General Gusau urged those responsible for circulating such falsehoods to cease their actions immediately or face legal consequences.

He affirmed that both the military and other security agencies are closely monitoring these purveyors of doom.

“It is imperative for all of us to join forces in fortifying our democracy,” he added.
