● He was arrested by Police on governor’s order-Electoral body official
The whereabouts of Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr Johnson Alalibo have brcome a subject of controversy.
While a report said that he had been arrested by the State Commissioner of Police, allegedly on the orders of Governor Godwin Obaseki, another version said his whereabouts were unknown.
According to a staff member of the electoral commission in Benin city who spoke to truthlive.net, Mr Alalibo was arrested on Thursday morning and he is still being detained as of the time of filing this report by 17:45hrs.
She reportedly told the correspondent of the online news medium that the Edo State governor, having lost all his electoral litigations and battles to the Edo PDP legacy, had resulted in bullying and intimidating perceived enemies.
She stated that picking on the Edo State INEC boss who has been very diligent in carrying out his constitutional responsibility was a wrong call to make.
According to the female staff members who was obviously furious with the action of the embattled governor, “our commissioner is only answerable to our National Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, and not Governor Obaseki. His arrest is only a waste of time as Mr Alaliba is a law-abiding citizen who is carrying out his constitutional responsibilities and duties according to the law of the land.”
