Developing: Six persons trapped as building collapses on Victoria Island

Six people were trapped on Sunday when a seven-storey uncompleted building, undergoing construction, collapsed at Oba Idowu Oniru Street, beside Avi Maria hospital on Victoria Island, Lagos.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the building collapse.

“Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, an uncompleted 7-storey building undergoing construction was found to have collapsed. Six people are reported to be trapped under the rubbles of the collapsed structure.

“The Agency’s heavy duty equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated Lagos State Response plan. Operation ongoing,” Oke-Osanyintolui said.

Zonal Coordinator South West, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, said that the building was under construction when it collapsed.

He said that six persons were apparently trapped under the rubble of the building.
