President Bola Tinubu is holding a crucial meeting with Nigeria’s service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The closed-door session, which commenced around 3:00 pm on Tuesday, also had prominent members of the National Assembly in attendance.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele were among those sighted at the Presidential Villa.
Also seen arriving at the Villa’s forecourt were the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and his deputy, Benjamin Kalu.
However, it remained unclear as of press time if the two lawmakers were part of the security briefing.
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alongside the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Mohammed, are also participating in the meeting.
While the exact agenda of the emergency meeting has not been officially disclosed, it followed closely on the heels of a pipeline explosion that rocked Bodo Community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident, which occurred late Monday night, affected a section of the Trans Niger Pipeline near the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is still under construction.
The meeting is believed to be part of ongoing efforts by the federal government to address pressing national security issues.
