Developing: Less than 24hrs after nomination, Senate confirms ex-IGP Arase as PSC chairman

Less than twenty-four hours after it received official communication from President Muhammadu Buhari, nominating him as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, PSC, the Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, confirmed the nomination of a former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase (retd) on accordance.

The confirmation followed the consideration of the report of screening of the nominee presented by Senator Haliru Jika (APC – Bauchi Central)-led Committee on Police Affairs during plenary on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari had, on Tuesday, requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Arase as the new PSC chairman.

The President, in a letter read during plenary on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, said the appointment was in accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.

With his confirmation, Arase replaces Musiliu Smith who resigned as chairman recently.
