The Managing Director (MD) of Heritage Bank, Ifie Sekibo, has reportedly given his staff members the marching orders to lay siege to the homes of the Bank’s debtors.

The move stemmed out of anger over refusal and failure by the Bank’s big debtors to pay back the loans they obtained from the bank, which is threatening its operations and ability to continue to stay afloat.

The move is largely and especially targeted at politician debtors who are still throwing money into politics while failing to service their debt portfolio with the bank and perhaps other banks.

A prominent politician and self-styled godfather, Senator Andy Uba was one of the debtors whose home in Abuja the staff members laid siege to as part of desperate move to recoup the loan given to him by the bank.

Heritage Bank MD, Sekibo, reportedly authorised the deployment of chaos in the homes of debtors.

On Monday, June 21, a motley crew of protesters from Heritage Bank stormed Uba’s residence in Abuja, in a peaceful protest.

Their aim, according to them, was to peacefully urge him to settle his debt with the bank.

They said Uba’s failure to settle his debt that would result in job losses for the bank employees keeping vigil in front of his house.

In a video shared by one of the protesters, he stated that the huge loan secured by Uba was actually depositors’ money which must be refunded.

They feared the likely impact of being laid off on their families.

The move by the bank at a time Uba is seeking the governorship ticket of the APC to contest the Anambra gubernatorial poll, as noted by some watchers, might affect his profile and his chances.
