One of the frontline aspirants for the chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has reportedly failed to appear before the APC national chairmanship screening committee.

He was expected on Tuesday to cause appearance for him to interact with the screening committee, but he did not show up, according to sundry media reports and sources close to the APC screening committee.

As at the time of this report, it was not clear why Adamu, alleged to be President Muhammadu Buhari’s anointed candidate for the position, did not appear before the screening committee on Tuesday.

Reports from some quarters suggested that he might have been indisposed and therefore unable to cause appearance.

Recall that on Monday the APC Senate caucus had denied endorsing Adamu as APC Chairman.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Ajibola Basiru, faulted media reports that the APC caucus in the Senate had endorsed Abdullahi Adamu as its preferred candidate for the party’s chairmanship.

Meanwhile, The Conclave has gathered that President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to meet with all national chairmanship aspirants on Wednesday.

The meeting, as learnt, is scheduled for 8:00 pm.

It was however unclear if the President would meet with only aspirants from North Central, the zone to which the party has ceded the position or all northern aspirants.

This is because an aspirant from North-West zone and former Zamfara governor, Abdulaziz Yari, insisted on Tuesday that he was in the race.

He said he was not aware that the position had been zoned to North central.

Yari had also warned the APC leadership guard against anointing a candidate for the position of national chairman.

He said he looked forward to see the party choose its national chairman through the ballot.
