The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Port (TCIP), has raked in the sum of One Hundred and Twelve Billion, Six Hundred and Ninety-Five Million, Six Hundred and Ninety-Three Thousand, One Hundred and Fifty-Eight Naira, Sixty-Six Kobo revenue between January and March 2021.
This development, according to the service, reflected an improvement of about 21.05 billion, surpassing the revenue earnings of 91 billion in the first quarter of the previous year 2020.
Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller MBA Musa, said the Command also seized 43.110kg of cocaine concealed in raw bulk sugar, as part of the outcome of its sustained anti-smuggling operations.
Comptroller Musa also pointed out that in delivering effectively on its mandate, the command kept their communication lines open and made concerted efforts to ensure that the supply chain was not disrupted.
On the seized cocaine, he disclosed that the command had arrested 20 suspects in connection with the crime, including the vessel involved – MV SPAR SCORPIO- and had handed them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
Comptroller Musa, who gave the briefing of the first quarter report of the Tincan Island Port, further disclosed that the Command had put measures in place with a view to ensuring that Legitimate Traders were given expeditious attention.
“Accordingly, the Dispute Resolution Committee and the Help Desk has been re-jigged with a mandate to attend very expeditiously to all Trade related disputes.
“We have also reinvigorated the use of inter-modal transport system – use of Barges for Cargo movement in line with Global Best Practices,” he stated.
