Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command in Lagos, have uncovered a forty foot container load of expired Water from Poland, valued at five million, four hundred and Ninety three thousand, thirty three naira.
The Area Controller, Himma Swomen in a brief with journalists disclosed that, the container was tracked following intelligence from Customs Headquarters.
He said, the importation which was 16,920 units of 1.5 litre bottles, contravened item number 11 of the common External Tarrif and import procedure as the bottled products were not labelled in English.
He further announced that investigations had commenced in collaboration with NAFDAC and NDLEA to ascertain the true state of the Water and be sure it was not linked with any narcotic smuggling.
Similarly, it has generated seven Billion, Nine Hundred and Sixty five thousand, Nine Hundred and Seven naira as Customs duty and other charges in the first quarter of 2021, surpassing the 5.8 Billion made in the first quarter of 2020.
In the Area of Anti-smuggling, the following items were seized in contravention with extant government laws and policies:
▪︎ Two thousand six hundred and fifty five (2,655) pieces of used car
tyres concealed with two (2) vehicles..
▪︎ Two thousand seven hundred and seventy two(2,772) pieces of (5
liter) kegs of Vegetable oil..
▪︎ Sixteen thousand nine hundred and twenty (16,920) bottles of
1.5litre Table Water…All with Duty paid Value of Fifty five Million, seven hundred and thirty nine thousand, four hundred and thirty three naira.
