The legal team representing Sophia Momodu in her ongoing child custody dispute with Afrobeats star Davido has cautioned the singer and his supporters against public harassment and intimidation, following heated exchanges on social media.
In a statement released on Monday, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors condemned what it described as hostile and inflammatory remarks aimed at its partner, Ebelechukwu Enedah, over her role in the court proceedings.
The firm stressed that the case is currently before a Lagos court and should be resolved strictly through legal means, warning that attacks on lawyers could erode public confidence in the justice system.
“Our attention has been drawn to statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, via social media, directed at our partner arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State.
“If legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled,” the statement read.
The warning followed emotional posts by Davido last Friday, where he criticised Enedah for what he perceived as insensitive comments about his late son during cross-examination.
In one of the viral posts, he wrote, “Like I said in the courtroom, I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever, and you were still smiling, smirking.
“You are a wicked human being. You are the worst lawyer ever. I beat you in court. You are not learned.”
Amid the outburst, Davido mistakenly identified gospel singer Tosin Bee, resulting in backlash against the musician. Tosin Bee later clarified the situation, saying, “Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made. As a matter of fact, my mum went to be with the Lord eight years ago. I guess this is a case of mistaken identity. So sorry you had to deal with this, but my prayers are with you. I love you brother.”
Following the controversy, Enedah reportedly restricted access to her social media accounts.
Prompt News reports Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors stated that it would pursue all lawful options to protect its lawyers and uphold the integrity of the judicial process, urging legal bodies to speak out against intimidation.
“Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors will deploy every lawful measure available to it to resist any attempt to intimidate counsel or undermine judicial proceedings.
“Those who engage in conduct calculated to interfere with the administration of justice will be met with the full consequences provided by law,” the firm said.
Meanwhile, Davido later confirmed on X that he had withdrawn the case, clarifying that he only sought joint custody.
“I never asked for full custody. I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost, but Imade. There is nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
He added, “I’ve decided to drop the case because … until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love!” [Prompt News]
