▪︎As Gov. Oyetola reviews appointment months later
By Our Correspondent.
Criticisms have continued to trail the appointment of Yeside Oyinkansola Akande, wife of the current Osun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olufemi Akande, as his Personal Assistant.
According to a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, Mrs Akande was appointed as Personal Assistant, PA, to her husband on November 4th, 2019.
The letter reads, “I am pleased to inform you that the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has approved your appointment as Personal Assistant to the Attoney-General and Hon. Commissioner for Justice with effect from 24 October, 2019.
“While congratulating you on this well deserved appointment, the State Government counts much on you that this elevation would enhance your performance with a view to moving the State of Osun to greater heights.”
The letter by the Secretary to the State Government was dated February 4, 2020.
Information gathered by The Conclave revealed that the appointment was terminated by Governor Gboyega Oyetola some months later.
Sources within the government who are aware of the appointment informed our Correspondent that the appointment was real but when the Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola heard about it in 2020, he ordered for its review.
One of the sources said, “as we speak today, no such appointment exists within the government. Governor Oyetola has ordered for the termination of the appointment upon hearing getting to know about it.
“The Governor was furious upon hearing it. He immediately summoned the Commissioner and ordered for termination of the appointment. He said the action goes against the principles of his government. It has been terminated since last year.”
In his response to the development, the Convener of Dialogue 360, Comrade Waheed Saka described it as moral bankruptcy, stating that the APC members in the state who worked for the emergence of Oyetola did not find the appointment funny.
Saka said, “It’s a moral issue and it’s so unfortunate that the Honourable Commissioner did not find any other person worthy of being his Personal Assistant other than his wife. I’m sure it’s because he’s not a grounded politician in Osun, that’s why he did that. I know those supporters of their party who worked tirelessly campaigning for Oyetola would not find this funny.
“The Commissioner should find a way of doing the needful while the government should ensure it wins back the trust of citizens.”
Similarly, speaking on telephone, the Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State, Hon. Sunday Bisi said it was a display of impunity by the government of Oyetola at all times.
Bisi said, “It’s a complete show of impunity which is the hallmark of this government. No sane administrator would do such. It’s a mindset of ‘what will happen’ that they display all the time.
“Are we saying they are short of people with capacity to hold such office except his wife? Even in the APC. It’s highly embarrassing.
“What we as a party believe is that they don’t have interest of Osun people and the state at hearts. Osun is like a business environment to them. They only want to get their businesses done and run back to their bases.”
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state has kept mum on the matter.
Spokesperson of the party, Mr Kunle Oyatomi, told our Correspondent that he had no comment on the matter.
Olufemi Akande, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice is a son of the former Governor of the State and former interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande.
