Crisis is brewing within the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), in Osun State as the newly created The Osun Progressive (TOP), a splinter group within the party, had petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokede, over the recent comment made by the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Remi Omowaiye, who declared the group personal non grata in the state.
The comment was said to have been made in a meeting of the party in Ilesa West Local Government area of the state.
The Conclave learnt that the petitioned was said to have been written by the Secretary of TOP, Adelani Baderinwa, a former State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, who served under the Rauf Aregbesola regime.
Aregbesola was said to have been appointed as the Chairman, board of trustees in his Lagos residence when former members of his cabinet visited him during the Sallah festivities.
Omowaiye was sighted at the State Police Headquarters, Osogbo, in the afternoon of Friday in respect of the petition.
The police source also confirmed that the Chairman of TOP, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi and the Secretary, Baderinwa were also at the police headquarters in respect of the petition on Thursday.
Omowaiye however confirmed the police invitation when contacted, but declined further comment on the matter, describing it as a mere distraction which will not hold water.
According to him, “It is true that I was invited by the police on a petty issue but I will not dignify anyone with needless public response. The leadership of our party at all levels have banned TOP. It is a distraction and we are not ready for that, the focus of our amiable Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the state is good governance and reasonable delivery of democratic dividends to better all and sundry.
“I considered the petition as a cover up for their threats against few of us in government, they have been threatening the lives of our people including my humble self, but they just want to use the petition as a cover up for their planned violent attack on my life, but I am not distracted in anyway”, he told this reporter.
