Crisis averted: Russian plane lands safely after fire breaks out mid-flight

A Russian Azimuth Airlines flight carrying 87 passengers and four crew members safely conducted an emergency landing at Antalya Airport, Turkey, on Sunday after its left engine caught fire mid-flight.

The Sukhoi SuperJet 100-95LR, en route from Sochi, Russia, managed to land without further incident despite challenging weather conditions.

Emergency crews extinguished the flames promptly, and all passengers and crew were safely evacuated without any injuries.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 PM TRT on runway 36R.

Officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the engine fire.

Suat Seyitoglu, an official quoted by The Moscow Times, confirmed, “All 87 passengers and four crew members were evacuated safely, and the fire was quickly contained.”

In a separate event early Monday, November 25, a DHL cargo plane operated by Swiftair crashed near a residential area in Vilnius, Lithuania, while en route from Leipzig, Germany.

The crash, which occurred around 5:30 am local time, claimed the life of one pilot.

Another pilot and two DHL employees onboard survived but sustained injuries.

The aircraft went down in the yard of a residential property, narrowly avoiding further casualties.

Fire crews quickly responded to extinguish a blaze at the crash site, and residents in the vicinity were evacuated as a precaution.

Lithuanian authorities confirmed that airport operations remain unaffected.

“City services, along with fire and airport command teams, are actively managing the situation. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing,” the Lithuanian airport authority stated on X.
